Line graph maker

Paste a column of dates and one column per line, and get a tidy line graph with labels at the end of each line. Save it as a PNG or SVG, or watch the lines draw themselves and export a video.

To make a line graph, open the Monthly temperature template below, paste your own table over it (dates or labels down the first column, one column per line) and export an Image (PNG). Dates such as 2024, Q1 2025, Mar 2025 or 03/04/2025 are recognised and spaced correctly along the bottom.

Each line is labelled at its end instead of in a separate key, which is easier to read and survives being shrunk onto a phone screen. When a still isn’t enough, press play: the same graph draws itself from left to right and exports as an MP4 or GIF. For a race between many lines, see the animated line chart maker.

How to make a line graph

  1. Open the template

Select Open the Monthly temperature template, or choose Line under Pick a chart to start.

  2. Add your data

In Data, use Paste data, Open a file or Edit data. One row per date and one column per line is the usual layout.

  3. Show the whole graph

In Chart, set Camera to Show it all so the axes fit every value from the start, and turn on Dots on each value under More options if each point matters.

  4. Name it

In Style, add the Title, Subtitle and Source, and a unit such as °C or % under More options → Numbers.

  5. Download

In Export, choose Image (PNG) or Vector image (SVG), then Export image and Download image. Pick Video (MP4) for the animated version.

Several lines on one graph

Every number column becomes a line with its own colour and an end label. Up to eight lines get colour automatically; beyond that the biggest stand out and the rest are drawn as faint context lines, so the graph stays readable. Pin the lines you care about under Chart → Choose which lines.

If two series have very different scales (visits in thousands and a conversion rate in per cent), they don’t belong on one axis. Make two graphs instead, or show the rate on its own; a second y-axis invites misreading.

Dates and time on the x-axis

Years, quarters, months and full dates are read from the first column and placed in time order, oldest first. Ambiguous dates such as 03/04/2025 are checked across the whole column to work out whether the day or the month comes first, and you can set it under Dates like 03/04/2024 if needed.

  • Blank cells, n/a and .. are treated as missing values rather than zeros.
  • Labels that aren’t dates (Week 1, Week 2) are kept in the order you gave them.

Line graph or area chart?

A line graph is best for comparing how several things change. An area chart fills the space under each line, which emphasises size; stacked, it shows how parts add up to a total, like sales by channel. Choose Area in the Chart step to switch, and Stack the areas to stack them.

Animate the line

The animated version draws each line from left to right while its label rides the newest value and the axis eases along. It’s the same graph, so the PNG and the MP4 match exactly, which is handy when a report needs a still and the presentation needs motion. Export Video (MP4) up to 4K, a GIF for chat and slides, or Transparent video (WebM) to lay the line over footage.

Line graph questions

How do I make a line graph with several lines?

Put the dates in the first column and one column per line, then paste the table in Data. Each column becomes a labelled line.

Can I put dates on the x-axis?

Yes. Years, quarters, months and full dates are recognised and spaced in time order.

How do I show a dot at each data point?

Turn on Dots on each value under More options in the Chart step.

Can I download the line graph as an image?

Yes: Image (PNG) at standard or Sharp (2×) size, or Vector image (SVG) for print and design apps.

Is there a free line graph maker without sign-up?

This one: no account, no watermark, and your data stays in your browser.

Can the line graph be animated?

Yes. Press play to see the line draw itself, then export Video (MP4) or GIF from the same graph.
